Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is caused due to infection in the
uterus. A bacterial infection causes the inflation of these
organs. Fallopian tubes are most affected. PID can be due to abortion,
or after the birth of a child and even after having sex with new
partner. PID causes pain in the abdomen area. Pelvic inflammatory
disease can also be caused due to unhygienic living; bacterial
formation is faster near the pelvic region so proper hygiene is
necessary. Due to pelvic inflammatory disease, pain on right or left
side or both the side of abdomen can be caused. Excessive smoking can
be another reason of causing this problem.
Doctors can identify this disease by normal symptoms like pain in
the abdominal region and in some cases, where it cannot be identified
by regular symptoms then blood test is done. In pelvic inflammatory
disease hospitalization of the patient is not necessary; it can be
cured by taking some anti biotic prescribed by doctor and taking some
rest at home. This disease is not limited to female even males catch
this disease that is why it is advisable that if one feels the
irritation earlier then both should go for medical checkup because it
might possible other have also caught the infection. Chronic pelvic
inflammatory disease if not cured in its initial stage then it can
cause some serious problems in future like unable to expect a child,
uterus cancer etc.
Women who have multiple sex partners are more likely to catch this
disease earlier. Women who get involved in sex during their pregnancy
are also likely to fall prey to this disease. Pelvic pain is caused in
pelvic area. Pelvic region is the area below belly button and above
hip region. If in any person, pelvic pain lasts for more than six
months than it is considered as chronic pelvic inflammatory
disease. If it runs for a longer duration then it may lead to
infertility.
In pelvic inflammatory disease, the bacterium travels from vagina
to the women uterus. Women try to ignore this infection and consider
it as a normal problem and by the time they realize that the problem
is serious but it gets too late for them.
Awareness about this has to be spread, so that women do not feel
shy in taking treatment and consulting a doctor. Chronic pelvic
inflammatory disease may even lead to death of the women.
Symptoms of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease are:-
. Cramping
. Heaviness in the pelvic region
. Pain
. Itching
. Fever
. Swelling in the pelvic region
. Low back pain
. Vaginal discharge
. Irregular menstrual bleeding
. Smelly vaginal discharge
To cure pelvic inflammatory disease antibiotics can be taken and if
medication alone does not help then doctor can suggest going for a
surgery. It is very important to follow doctors advice, one should not
stop taking the medicines before the doctor ask for. Regular
gynecological check should be taken up by the patient to confirm that
the disease is not occurring again.
