If you've had unprotected sex and suspect Chlamydia, it's important that you submit to a Chlamydia test as soon as you can. A bacterial infection, if left unattended and undisturbed, will be free to multiply exponentially - as bacteria do - and can quickly pose more serious threats to your health. What can begin as a relatively benign infection can lead to an uncontrollable discharge and out of control inflammation, making it very difficult to get through the day. For women especially, for whom symptoms aren't immediately apparent in 75% to 80% of the cases, the Chlamydia test is recommended if she's ever had unprotected sex. For pregnant women, the Chlamydia test is recommended unequivocally. Women also increase their risk of creating a situation in which their fallopian tubes and uterus become inflamed (pelvic inflammatory disease or PID). In such a case, reproduction will certainly become complicated, if not impossible (when the tubes are blocked completely). Chlamydia is a highly preventable cause of infertility. In the rare instance that women with PID do get pregnant, the run the risk of the egg settling in the fallopian tomb instead of the womb, which threatens the life of woman, in that this will cause an excessive amount of bleeding.
